Legacy Video Case Study: Sarah’s Story

Sarah and her great uncle Harry after recording their legacy interview.

A customer’s perspective on making a Legacy Video.

I was honored when my father asked me to conduct our family’s Legacy Interview with my great uncle, Harry. He had just moved into a senior living community and we wanted to do something special for his birthday and we knew shooting a family Legacy Video would be an experience we’d all remember.

Harry is my grandmother’s brother and he has been a staple of our family for my entire life, never missing an event or a school recital. He was always a shutterbug, taking hundreds of pictures with his trusty Nikon 35mm camera whenever he came. Because of his interest in photography, we have hundreds of cherished pictures documenting important moments in our family’s history. But Harry was always behind the scenes; he was never featured in the photos himself. My parents knew hiring Legacy Video Stories would be a way to turn the tables, and put Harry front and center. We knew it would be a great way to learn a lot about him and to let him know that he is a special part of our family.

Before the shoot, the producer from Legacy Video Stories had a call with my Father and I to go over what to expect. The producer had already worked with Harry’s senior living community to pick a location within the building to shoot. They described the camera set-up, which was quite extensive, and asked us about Harry’s life.

At the end of the call, Legacy Video Stories sent us a list of questions I could use for the interview and invited me to add more personal questions about Harry. I gathered suggestions for more questions from my siblings, cousins, parents and grandmother. I whittled the list down to about 30 questions and brought them with me on the day of the shoot.

On the day of the shoot, the producer set up the cameras, lights, and microphones while Harry and I talked about some of questions that I’d be asking. When everything was set-up, we sat down for an unbelievable 90-minute conversation. Two days later, I got the edited link to our interview and was able to share it with the whole family.

I can’t say how much I recommend Legacy Video Stories. They made the process so easy and the results are something I will cherish forever. I’m already planning my next interview with my grandmother, and whoever else in my family that will be willing to do it.
