FREE Activity for Senior Centers and Senior Living Communities
An activity to inspire seniors to tell their stories.
In order to spread the word around the importance of having seniors tell their own personal stories, Legacy Video Stories founder, Jim Cosco, is now visiting seniors in the northeast to help them get started. A huge evangelist of passing family stories down to younger generations, Jim’s mission is to get everyone talking about themselves and their heritage.
About the presentation
Jim’s message is simple; everyone has a story that’s worth telling.
In this presentation, Jim talks about why he’s so passionate about encouraging everyone to tell their own story. He talks about why seniors should control their own narrative while they can and he covers simple ways they to get started. Whether through video, journaling, scrapbooking, or just conversations with friends and family, Jim always comes back to the same message– get started today and do it however works best for you.
This is not a sales pitch disguised as a motivational speech. This is a meaningful presentation about how one can leave their legacy for future generations. Part show and tell and part autobiographical narrative, this interactive presentation ties storytelling to moments, places, memories, and heirlooms that together create a mosaic of a life well lived.
Jim talks about ways to get started telling your story. Although we favor using video at Legacy Video Stories, he covers other ways that are less of a financial investment. He also covers common questions to ask yourself during a legacy project; questions that start with the simple things before moving on to the more complex. The presentation is sure to give seniors and their families a new perspective on documenting their important family stories.
Seniors are encouraged to bring an object to the presentation that means a lot to them personally and that reflects an important part of their life. After Jim discusses some items that mean a lot to him, he invites seniors to share their items and stories as well.
